Album that's been blowing my mind this week: Devin Davis - Lonely People of the World, Unite!. It's fast, upbeat, fun, sad, and more importantly, hopeful. Reminds me of Bishop Allen, Decemberists, and even The Arcade Fire. Stopped by A&B Sound at lunch and was so pleased they had it, only $14.99 too. Listen to Iron Woman MP3.
Albums that haven't been leaked that I'm most looking forward to this year: NIN, Gorillaz, and Wolf Parade.
Indie hip-hop supergroup Living Legends, featuring underrated MC, Murs, has a new album called Classic. It has a nice cover:

The Kirk Van Houten Award for Excellency in Song Naming goes to Youth Group for "Why Don't the Buildings Cry?". The album isn't bad so far though. Kinda reminds me of Uncut, which I like more and is way more rocking shoegaze than "dark and melancholic" Youth Group. At least the name Youth Group is better than Dogs Die in Hot Cars, but not by much. Youth Brigade has a better name than most bands.
I have no problem with someone finding God, really, I appreciate your quaint traditions and superstitions. But who knew that Getting Down With Jesus turns you into a comedian? I point to ex-Korn guitarist Brian "Head" Welch cause he's pretty funny:
Welch explained that "A Cheap Name" was not an attack on 50, but rather a "message from God" (the last line in the song is "Love, Jesus"). And as he explained further in his letter, Welch only wants the rapper to change the way he lives his life, because, as he put it, "God told me there will be many attempts made to kill you by the enemy."
Stop it, you're killing me!
Party Ben has a new mashup featuring Tegan & Sara vs. Mylo - "Walking with a Ghost in Paris". I had a discussion last week with a friend about how Tegan & Sara - Superstar is worthy of a remix, since they never play it live any more. Their next single will be Speak Slow to be released to coincide with their upcoming bill supporting the Killers tour.
Most played song of last week: Aqueduct - Growing Up With GNR. I was 10 when all I listened to was Appetite for Destruction.
interesting tidbit about tegan & sara.. they're from a city right next to mine and come down for performances all the time.
